Fire Risk Assessments
Gavin Dickson, Professions Team Leader at BHIB Insurance Brokers, explains the importance of Fire Risk Assessments: –
“While it is our job to advise our clients about potential risks to their business, in truth when it comes to fire the primary risks are relatively obvious. A serious fire can lead to property being damaged or destroyed and, in the very worst cases, lead to injury or loss of life.
Such a catastrophic event can result in further issues such as legal disputes, damage to reputation, and regulatory fines. While such issues are obviously a secondary concern, they can still have a serious impact on a business or property owner and how they recover after a fire.
While in some cases a fire is unavoidable, a good quality Fire Risk Assessment not only lessens this risk but also demonstrates good practice and ensures that you are complying with regulatory requirements.
The attached Fire Risk Assessment Template gives guidance on the issues to consider when completing a Fire Risk Assessment, provides details of the regulations surrounding this, and provides a number of templates and checklists.
While not all of the points referred to in the document may be applicable to your particular building, you may find this useful either when formulating a new Fire Risk Assessment, or even when reviewing an existing one.”
